Margie was born in a Navy Hospital, in Portsmouth,
VA. When her dad’s
tour was finished, her family returned to St. Albans, WV where she was
raised by her parents, David and Polly Downey. Margie accepted Christ when
she was 9 years old and was baptized with her dad. Margie’s grandparents
had a very strong influence in her Christian walk. She says the lead by
example and looking back she can now see God preparing her and working
in her by the example they showed. She grew up in Highlawn Baptist Church,
St. Albans, WV where she was active in choir, youth and anything else that
was going on! She has always enjoyed being involved with church activities
and ministries. The Lord has prepared her through many life lessons. Her
passion for children began when she was 19 years old and began helping
in VBS and other children’s activities. She answered the call of
serving the Lord through children in 1996 where she served as Director
of Children’s Ministries at Main Street Baptist Church in Point Pleasant,
WV for 5 years. She says she was blessed so much by the children of the
church and community, far more than she could imagine.
Margie married Doug Keeling on May 19, 1990. They have two children Brett (6/25/93) and Brittany (4/11/95). They moved to Muscle Shoals, AL in October of 2003 due to Doug’s job. Before that they lived in NW Indiana for 3 years, where Margie was active in AWANA’s and taught Preschool Sunday School.
Margie loves spending time with Doug and the kids!
She also enjoys spending time in WV with family and friends. They spend
lots of time at the ball
field watching Brett play baseball and Brittany play soccer and tennis.
Her favorite verse is Philippians 1:21 “For to me, to live is Christ
and to die is better yet.”
